Renato F. Manay was born in Lima, Peru and raised in the East Bay. He graduated from Pinole Valley High School. Following graduation, Renato attended the University of California, Berkeley, earning bachelor degrees in Ethnic Studies and Spanish and graduating with High Honors. During college, he served as a Refugee Advocate for the East Bay Sanctuary Covenant (EBSC), assisting Central American immigrants with immigration paperwork and serving as an interpreter during political asylum interviews.

In 2009, Renato earned his law degree from the Ohio State University’s Moritz College of Law. That same year, Renato also earned his M.A. degree in Public Policy and Management from the Ohio State University’s John Glenn School of Public Affairs.

During law school, he served in the Executive Board for the Ohio State Journal of Criminal Law, was President of the Latino Law Student Association, and was a recipient of the Public Interest Law Foundation Fellowship. Renato was a certified legal intern for the Justice for Children Project, where he represented children with immigration and juvenile delinquency issues. Mr. Manay had previously interned for the felony and research divisions of the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office.
Mr. Manay was admitted to practice law in California in 2010 and joined the Law Offices of Robert J. Beles that same year. He focuses on legal matters pertaining to immigration, criminal defense, and post-conviction relief. He has successfully advocated for clients during bond hearings in immigration court, obtaining their release from custody, and has been representing those seeking to adjust their legal status in the U.S. Renato has also been successful in advocating for those seeking sex-registration-relief and is currently working with clients seeking to vacate convictions due to non-advisement of immigration consequences.

Renato F. Manay is fluent in both English and Spanish, is an avid college football, baseball and soccer fan, and enjoys Peruvian folklore dancing. He is the first generation in his family to have graduated from college and has a twin brother who is also an attorney. He is dedicated to assisting his community through the legal field.
